Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), Katra, was founded in 1999 and received legislative status from the Jammu and Kashmir Legislature by an act. The SMVDU campus is set across 470 acres of land in Trikuta Hills, which is also renowned as Maa Vaishno Devi’s home. As a result, the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board also approves the formation of SMVDU. The University Grants Commission has recognised SMVDU under sections 2(f) and 12(B) of the UGC Act of 1956.

In several fields, the University provides undergraduate (B. Tech. and B. Arch), postgraduate (M. Tech., M.A., M. Sc., and M.B.A), dual degree (integrated), and doctorate (Ph.D) programmes. According to the NIRF Ranking 2021, the university is placed 79th in the engineering category. According to the NIRF Rankings of 2020, it was ranked 78th out of all engineering institutes in India and ranked among the top 100 business schools in the country. Around 136 highly experienced assistant professors are hired to convey information in a variety of specialisations, and students from more than 23 states study and live on the tranquil and secure campus.

The B.Tech degree is available in a variety of specialities, including computer science, electronics and communication, mechanical, biotechnology, energy management, architectural, civil, and electrical engineering. Students applying for Science courses can choose from Mathematics, Physics, and Biotechnology. The Management faculty is divided into two departments: I School of Business and (ii) School of Economics. The Humanities Faculty offers three courses: an M.Sc. in Economics, an MA in Philosophy, and a PhD in Philosophy and Culture. SMVDU places a strong emphasis on hands-on learning, mandatory industrial interface, diverse pedagogy, and an open continuous evaluation system.

•  Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University International Women’s Day 2021 Celebration

The School of Languages and Literature hosted a session on ‘Gender Equality: Theory & Praxis’ in honour of International Women’s Day 2021. A webinar on the topic “Gender Sensitisation and Prevention of Harassment” was presented by Dr. Ritu Bakshi, Faculty at the Central University of Jammu.

• Formation of Anti-Ragging Squads

The University administration has established 7 anti-ragging teams for boys and girls hostels for the academic year 2020-21 to patrol and monitor locations on campus and in dormitories. Each group’s responsibilities have been assigned to different days of the week, including Sundays.

• TA Digital and SBI are leading a campus placement drive.

Despite COVID-19 constraints, SMVDU students were able to secure positions at two companies-TA Digital and SBI Life Insurance-via a rigorous campus placement campaign at the university.

• The School of Mathematics has been chosen for a DST-FIST 2020 grant.

DST-FIST will provide money to the School of Mathematics to improve infrastructural facilities for teaching and research in universities for high-end science and technology-related experimental and theoretical work.

Dr. Amitabh V. Dwivedi, a faculty member in the School of Languages and Literature, was invited to speak on “Fieldwork in Linguistics” at Cluster University in Jammu. During the seminar, he also addressed questions and emphasised field linguistics interview approaches.

A committee oversees an outsourced, centralised mess in boys and girls dormitories. It also provides kids with healthy and tasty meals. The university is well-connected by roads, railroads, and airways. The airport and railway station are easily accessible. Local transport has been made easier by the availability of minibuses around the clock. A guest house is one of the SMVDU Katra facilities. The university guest house contains 51 rooms and 4 suites with modern amenities such as WiFi, air conditioning, a kitchen, and a dining space. Matrika Auditorium has a seating capacity of 1000 people and is centrally air-conditioned. It features opulent and modern architectural and technical facilities, and it is fireproof. An on-campus medical facility is available at SMVDU Katra. The medical aid centre employs doctors, nurses, medical assistants, laboratory assistants, and other personnel to provide medical services 24 hours a day, seven days a week. • Take JEE Main and get a valid score.
• Candidates must register for JoSAA counselling based on their JEE Main result.
